Schedule a Teacher-Guided Tour • Schedule a Docent or Storyteller Tour
Please have a minimum of one adult for every 10 students and a maximum of three adults per 10 students in your group.
We are grateful to the friends and families that join tours for their invaluable assistance. We ask chaperones for the following:
Call 415.581.3697 and/or email schools [at] asianart.org as soon as possible for changes. Any request for changes in a tour date, time, program or number of chaperone tickets must be made in advance. Requests are accommodated according to availability. Changes to the number of student or adult tickets must be made at least one week in advance of the tour date.
All of our docents and storytellers generously volunteer their time and effort. If you must cancel your tour, please do so at least two weeks before your scheduled date. For tour cancellations call 415.581.3697 and/or email schools [at] asianart.org
A wealth of resources is available free in Explore Resources.
Yes, schools operating a schoolwide program may use Title I funds to support activities such as field trips to increase access to hands-on humanities experiences and activities. For more information read the Department of Education’s letter on leveraging ESEA, IDEA and Perkins Funds for humanities education.
Our Art Terrace is available for classes to enjoy their lunches. If it is raining, we will do our best to find a space inside where students can eat. Groups also often choose to picnic at the children’s playground in Civic Center Plaza across the street.
We ask groups to avoid arriving to self-guide before their tour to prevent overlapping on our morning tours. Groups that arrive late may receive a modified program.
The San Francisco Main Library and San Francisco City Hall are located within five minutes walking distance of the museum. The public library has a wonderful children’s section, cafe, gallery and programming. City Hall offers free guided tours for school groups. For more information, contact the respective institutions directly through their websites.
All backpacks and bags larger than 12″ x 12″ will need to be checked before entering the galleries.
If it is raining, the museum can provide limited spaces for school groups to each lunch inside. These spaces are offered depending on availability. It is best to have a contingency plan in case these spaces are not available. Contact schools [at] asianart.org or 415.581.3697 for more details.
Yes, school groups may exit and re-enter the museum freely after the end of a school tour, and we ask that students travel in small groups supervised by chaperones. School groups are encouraged to stay in the museum after the end of their tour as long as they wish.
