Scenes of birds in magnolia trees have long been a favorite subject for Chinese painters. Wong Luisang acquired his skills in rendering this subject from his teacher Chao Shao-an, a master painter of the Lingnan tradition. The inscription by the artist reads: Spring of xinghai year (1971).
